Controller Support Expansion is Released!


At long last, the controller support expansion for Ren'Py is released. I originally started to work on this pack back in June, set it down for a few months, and have been working on it very consistently since the end of November. This project has been a huge labour of love - originally it was just going to be a controller-friendly viewport, but it's ballooned into so much more.

Controller users deserve better! And improved controller and keyboard controls will make your game so much more accessible to audiences on all sorts of platforms (and perhaps get that Steam Deck Verified stamp for your game on Steam, too).

Besides all the features included in the pack, I wanted to highlight that I've also written some 25k+ of documentation, for the tool, complete with tons of gifs and examples. You can find it here. If you're not sure where to start with the pack, take a look at the documentation and see if any of the examples look like something you'd want in your project. Features like the controller viewport are overall just a net improvement to the usability of a viewport, and can usually replace a viewport almost one-to-one.

Finally - this ended up taking me so long to release that it fell into the time frame of the Make Visual Novel Assets Jam.
